Facebook Messenger Reactions used more than 2 billion times in the first 2 months
Back in the month of March, a new update came to Facebook Messenger, the ability to allow users respond to individual messages with a messenger thread with a reaction – the emoji set which was first rolled out to Facebook back in February last year. The reason that we believe it may have been far more effective on messenger than it was on the main Facebook app is because it feels a lot more relevant to the fast-flowing group chats you can create on Messenger as opposed to reacting on a Facebook status or image. In our opinion reactions simply serve more of a purpose on Messenger than Facebook, this is because they provide an easier way to respond to individual messages within a stream.
As it turns out as you may have gathered from the title, Reactions have proven to be popular on Messenger, with Facebook reporting that over two billion Messenger Reactions have been sent within the first two months of their availability. To put this into even more perspective Reactions have been used 300 billion times in the first year, that on average would be around 25 billion uses per month. So, Messenger Reactions are not quite at the same pace as Facebook’s main app yet. But the use case is of course different – there are already on average 4 million likes submitted per minute on Facebook, whereas Likes have not been available within Messenger in the same form before.
To mark the milestone, Facebook shared the following infographic which breaks down Messenger Reactions use, including the most popular reactions by country, the most frequently used Reactions in different exchanges and usage amongst demographic groups.
